Step back into the past, and enter the heart of the Maya culture at Jungle Maya Native Park in Tulum:
After a day surrounded by the history and beauty of this place you may never view our world quite the same way again. More than 800 years ago, before Europeans set foot in the Americas, a stunning city on the hill was built facing the rising sun over the caribbean sea. The Maya people carefully constructed this city to align with key astronomical observations, to provide defense for their people and to offer an early form of navigation to mariners moving goods within the Maya empire.
Today, overlooking a turquoise sea and surrounded by 1600 acres of national park and rising on a 40 foot cliffs overlooking the sea, the walls and archeological sites of Tulum still hold the beauty, the power and the living connection to the people who first settled here those many centuries ago.
Before entering the underground river, we first seek permission as the ancient Maya did:
You will join a small group as we seek a proper blessing in the Mayan tradition through a ceremony to enter the underworld (the Cenote and underground rivers) and the Jungle. The Mayas believed that spirits lived in the jungle and underground rivers and you should ask permission before entering.
After this traditional ceremony, as you walk these ancient grounds the explosion of neon tropical colored flowers and ocean breezes will allow you to, for a moment, step back in time to walk in the footsteps of the Maya merchants, priests, warriors and mariners who made this city a jewel of the Maya civilization.
The sheer beauty of this land is only rivaled by the diversity of the ecosystems you will see:
Around you, more than 300 species of birds and animals fill the jungle with the same sounds those ancient Maya ancestors heard. Multiple bio regions contain wetlands, beaches, grasses and forest.
As you enter the Sac-Actun system, the longest underground river in the world, the color of the water will change from caribbean turquoise to midnight blue. This unspoiled natural wonder is repeatedly named as one of the top snorkeling locations by Natural Geographic for its beauty.
This place is something truly special that few people get to experience:
This place is truly something you must experience in your lifetime. It will change what you know about the past, the way you live in the present, and how you step forward into your future.
Join us and be a part of the only tour that allows you to swim at the mouth of the longest underground river, walk amongst tropical blooms and ancient archeological sites, zip line through the wilds of the jungle and engage in travel that will change your world for the better.
